PEGASUS C GO TOP OF DIVISION THREE

There are new leaders at the top of Division Three of the Colchester & District Table Tennis League. A timely first maximum of the season from Chris Smith catapulted Pegasus C up three places replacing Tollesbury A in the process as his team beat H20 Rowhedge C 8-2. Sandy Isaacs and Dave Haslam won two apiece for the Copford side with Brett Angell continuing his good form in his first season in a higher division, winning two for Rowhedge. The two Tollesbury teams, A and B are just a point behind both have a game in hand with the ‘B’ team regretting only fielding two players, going down 6-4 at Dedham. George Berry won his customary three as his team are fourth, with Rob King winning two for the losers. Colin Powell and Nigel Claydon are turning around H20 Rowhedge F’s slow start as their team easily accounted for St Mary’s B, replacing them in sixth spot in the process!

In Division Four H20 Rowhedge G are romping away with it as they made it five straight wins when thumping CRGS 8-2. Mark and Sam Burrows have won all twenty-four games they have been involved in and Jake Elms-Larkin is not far behind dropping just two from fifteen! Lawford C lead the chase as they won 9-1 against Pegasus F. Phil Daley and Len Betts starred both winning all of their games.

H20 Rowhedge A accounted for their ‘B’ team 7-3 in a tough Division One encounter as Steve Joslin regained his best form winning his three games, the most notable the four set defeat of previously unbeaten Kevin Gowlett who did well himself, beating Antony Greenwood in five. Their was a welcome return for Sue Welham winning two for St Mary’s A as her team bounced back, winning 9-1 at Walton B, Gary Young and Greg Green once again unbeaten. Despite this they drop to third as Gt Horkesley were handed a 10-0 walkover as Walton A disappointingly selectively conceded, despite being able to postpone the match! There was a first win for H20 Rowhedge C since returning to the top flight and indeed it was Mark Smith’s inaugural victory backed by a commanding maximum from Fred Button that enabled their team to move off the bottom. Walton C were their victims in every sense as they lost 6-4 and in doing so slip to the foot of the table.

There is better news for Walton D who continue to lead Division Two as they beat H20 Rowhedge D by the same score line to exact some revenge for the seaside club. Martin Edwards and John Hobson held firm, both completing maximums. This feat was emulated by Widong Liu and Lorrie Austin for third placed Gt Horkesley C in a 6-4 win at St Peters . Second placed Lawford A came out on top 8-2 over H20 Rowhedge a in a highly charged match that saw Alan Burgess win his three, the stand-out game against Graham Mortimer won in five ends. Dan Farrow played for Lawford against H20 Rowhedge D and he secured a maximum in an 8-2 win with only Peter Kirkland putting up any resistance winning two. Pegasus A have turned their form around despite an excellent performance from Tom Malster for Lawford B as his team lost 7-3 despite his fine maximum. Steve Noble, Toby Turner and Clive Forster all won a brace for the Copford based side.
