Len Barton, who has died aged 83, was a former President of the
Colchester & District Table Tennis League for twelve years and

With the Colchester & District Table Tennis League reaching
the half way stage it was the Team Handicap that came to the fore
this week. This season’s competition, like the Team Knockout
cup, will be held in groups for the first time and it’s just
as well for Division One leaders Gt Horkesley A as they were beaten

PRESTIGIOUS AWARDS FOR SENIOR COLCHESTER PLAYERS
Dave Jones Wins Corti Woodcock Essex Award
Colchester & District Table Tennis League Secretary David Jones
received the Corti Woodcock trophy at the Essex County TTA AGM,
the county's foremost award for services to the sport. He joins
a celebrated list of previous winners which includes Colchester's
Len Barton, John Andrews and David Cole having served over 40 years
in various management roles on the Colchester committee.
John Andrews Collects Maurice Goldstein ETTA Merit Award
Colchester & District Table Tennis League Chairman John Andrews
was presented with the Maurice Goldstein Merit award from the English
Table Tennis Association (ETTA). John who has been Colchester Chairman
for the past twenty-three years has recently taken up a full time
post with the ETTA as Regional Development Officer.

SHORE SHINES IN ROWHEDGE BATTLE
Second placed H20 Rowhedge B overcame their more experienced ‘C’
team 8-2 with Mike Shore , the youngest player in the match at just
sixteen outscoring his team mates with an excellent treble. It was
John Andrews that put up most resistance as he scored brilliant
wins over Antony Greenwood and Michael Andrews and took Shore all
the way before losing 11-5 in the final set.

David Cole led reigning Colchester & District Table Tennis
League Champions H20 Rowhedge A to a 6-4 victory in the battle of
Rowhedge against their up and coming ‘B’ team. Cole,
who has not played regularly this season, was the senior player
in every way as he overcame stiff resistance in Michael Andrews
14-12, 12-10, 11-3 in the opening game.
