Colchester Youngster Jane Li seeded number one, won the under-12 category in the national finals held at the Dome, Doncaster over the weekend of the 30th April / 1st May.  In the final Jane was unstoppable winning in 4 sets over Denise Payet, the number 3= seed. This is an excellent achievement! All told Jane had to play 8 matches to secure the title. The full results can be found here.

Colchester Success at Essex Ranking Trials

There was noteable success for Colchester Junior players at the Essex ranking trials held at BATTS, Harlow. Jane Li won the Girls Under 13 event with Chloe Andrews second in the U12’s and Ben Jackson tenth in the Boys U13’s. In the U18’s Andrew Harvey finished eighteenth and Tom Lewis twenty-eighth.

Rita Ranson Dies, Aged 85

Former Colchester Ladies Singles Champion Rita Ranson passed away peacefully in the Freda Gunton Lodge Care Home, Balkerne Gardens on Friday 10th September. Rita won the title in 1953 and was also a keen tennis player. She suffered a stroke 13 years ago but still remained active. Rita was a relative of 2009 Mens Singles winner Greg Green.

Colchester Veterans Excel at Vets Masters

Colchester League President Mick Buckley belied his many years winning the Over 70’s Plate at the recent Vets Masters at Thornbury, no mean feat considering the higher ranked England players in the competition. Fellow H20 senior player Alan Burgess reached the semi-finals of the Over 60’s event, losing to the eventual winner!

Former Colchester Junior Champion Keiron Lally has qualified as first Officer for Ryan Air, flying Boeing 737’s! The former Policeman is based in Italy but hopes to jet back & play the occasional game for Tollgate TTC!

Mudie Moves On

H20 Rowhedge’s Andrew Mudie will not be playing in the Colchester & District Table Tennis League next season. The beaten Men’s Singles finalist who works for Philips has been posted back to their Guildford office. Currently playing for ‘The Long Shots’ in the Rowhedge Summer leaegue he will be missed after just missing out on topping the league averages despite betaing Steve Kerns in the ‘match that did not count’!
We wish him every success in the future.

Carter Playing In World Vets Championships!

St Mary’s Trevor Carter is playing in the 15th World Veteran Table Tennis Championships being held in Hohhot, Mongolia, China from 7th to the 12th June 2010. The C&DTTL wishes him every sucess!
